A writer, musician, visual artist, graphic designer and now podcaster, Jakob has been called a renaissance man by several people. He’s been given several less generous monikers by considerably more people.
His entrance into the universe of audio shows was on the radio program Pins of Light on CHLY 101.7fm (Nanaimo, BC) where he was a regular co-host. Later his P-Reviews podcasts (still available on the Nerd Hurdles feed) were created for and broadcast as part of the show Enthusiasm Radio on the same station.
He was lucky enough to find Mandi who he tricked into being his secret-weapon co-host on a series of podcasts which eventually became Nerd Hurdles.
Some Jakob links:
Hmm. Mandi gets to be Deanna Troi, and you are Charlie Brown? Seems like there is at least a nickels worth of Lucy-psychology in that subtext.
Nice site. Bookmark is saved and sorted to the top!
Jakob, are you a Peanuts nerd? Because if you were, that would make me ridiculously happy. I’m a closet wannabe Peanuts nerd, if that’s even possible.
Peanuts is my main fandom. I suggest getting your hands on the Fantagraphics anothologies starting at the beginning.
I think I have a new nerd god.
I’ve read the Complete Peanuts 1950-1962 (the local library has them), but I haven’t been able to get my hands on the later ones. Yet.
Things start going down hill around 1967. But only because of the increased Snoopy attention. The Red Baron and all that stuff. When Snoopy starts “talking” and wearing costumes, I have to start skipping his strips.
Does that kind of thing go on for long?
Do you spend all day reading books and watching movies? Because I want that job.
Anyway, I love Nerd Hurdles.

Glad you’re enjoying the podcast. We spend less time reading and watching movies than you or I would like. If you figure out what that job is, let us know!
I thought you were a police officer Jakob? If plumbers could blackmail the government into paying them to attend a fellow fallen plumbers funeral I’m sure thousands would. Can you not recognize a PR ploy when it’s throw full force right into your face?
This is re: http://thestar.blogs.com/newsnow/2011/01/online-reaction-of-sgt-ryan-russells-funeral.html
Richard, you and I agree. My comment was the one above the one you are referencing by “Doug Henderson”. I myself was confused when I just went to look it up and thought someone had hacked my comment. Haha.
I hate to think what would cause a plumber to die in the line of duty.
